Europa

a fictive theater play inspired by Amerika by F. Kafka 02.19

Instead of a young German starting a new life in the USA, this adaptation depicts the story of Ahmad, a young Syrian trying to start a new life in Europe.

The play follows him from Damascus to Aachen (where the play takes place).
At the beginning only red color is used. From the moment that Ahmad arrives to Europe, only blue and yellow colors are used for the scenography and the costumes. This dreamlike world made out of marble patterns and big building cubes represents is expectations of Europe. He’s quickly disappointed and this playful world contrasts with the physical, mental and social violence that he has to deal with in Europe.
At the end of the play, Ahmad finds a job in a theater company.
The service lights turn on and he leaves on a red train made of building cubes by the back of the theater (through the loading door, on one of the main streets of Aachen).
The next chapter of his life can start.
